Local dog trainer nominated for CW Dog of the Year | Spare News

A local dog trainer has been nominated for the CW Dog of the Year award and will be the subject of a documentary episode as part of the associated series.

Jennifer Fraser says she received an email regarding the nomination of her show dog, Daiquiri, very suddenly and out of the blue, informing her of the request to film.

“They told me these were amazing dogs and went above and beyond and are special in a way no one can really understand,” Fraser said. “They have chosen seven dogs and they want Daiquiri to be one of them. The film crew will arrive at the end of September.

Never one to do nothing, Fraser has since moved to London, Ontario. to play with her dogs and will return to her home in Wheatland County three days before the film crew arrives.

Fraser added that it was an inspiration from her grandmother that led her to train dogs and compete. For this reason, Fraser asked his grandmother to come and be part of the project.

“I bring my grandmother here because she’s been the inspiration to me since I was little,” Fraser said. “One of the very first memories I had as a kid was of sitting on my grandmother’s lap watching Crufts, which is the biggest dog show in the world. said ‘I’m going to be there someday.’

Fraser’s feature for the series will be an episode shot in a documentary format, telling both his story and that of Daiquiri. According to Fraser, the story of getting to Crufts and his accomplishments with Daiquiri is what the feature film will focus on.

For Fraser, this opportunity is ultimately just the starting line when it comes to media production.

“The more I’m exposed, the more these opportunities start to come to me. I also have an idea to do a show similar to ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’ called, ‘So you think you can train,’ but I have to find the right people for that,” Fraser said. “It definitely opens the door to more opportunities for me and my dogs.”

Daiquiri will be featured in the series among other dogs such as a bomb detection dog, a service animal, and other animals who have gone above and beyond to help their people.

Fraser did not say when his feature film Dog of the Year would be released.

Moving on, she plans to put on a dog show in Las Vegas in 2023, among a host of other projects, and is currently training a pup that will grow up to eventually take Daiquiri’s place when Daiquiri enjoys his retirement after he’s too old to continue playing. .
