Duluth Retriever Club to offer dog training course – Duluth News Tribune

DULUTH – The Duluth Retriever Club will once again offer its popular “Train the Trainer” program this summer for hunting dogs and their owners.

The long-running program provides hands-on training for owners of new hunting dogs, with veteran retriever club dog experts offering advice on how to train your dog into a well-behaved hunting companion. Typically, there are four or five members on hand for sessions who are experienced aficionados of AKC Hunt Testing and/or Field Trials.

The program runs for 10 weeks at 6 p.m. Wednesdays starting May 25 at the Retriever Club Field Proving Grounds, 5476 Lester River Road, just outside of Duluth.

Owners of dogs 6 months or older who have undergone obedience training, initial field training or hunting season will find the course very beneficial. Over the past few years, course participants have ranged from new dog owners, to long-time club members, to enthusiasts with a young dog ready to get to work. The club grounds and nearby leased land offer large areas of upland and water for training.

The cost is $50, plus a $50 annual Duluth Retriever Club membership. For more information, visit
