Stacey Solomon welcomes a new member of the Teddy family

The adoption of Stacey Solomon’s dog has seen an animal charity forced to deny breaking the rules for celebrities seeking pets.

The star adopted a new dog last week following the death of her other dog Theo, who had been her pet for 11 years.

The former X Factor star shared the news with her followers last week that she had taken cocker spaniel Teddy into a foster home to keep their other dog Peanut company with the dachshund.

She got her new dog from ProDogsDirect but they’ve had to defend themselves against some fans who think it’s unfair that Stacey was able to get the dog.

One fan commented: “I would like to know how you guys do this I had to pick up a puppy cause no rescue would let me have a dog because you have a baby you have a toddler and a baby…it’s is ridiculous that so-called normal people can’t rescue but famous people can and no matter the circumstances…

“No hate, it’s just that the system works, why should someone famous change the life of a dog in a rescue center. I might have given a rescue dog a too good life you?”

Another added: “I just find that rescues don’t normally make the adoption process any easier. Families normally need older kids etc as they don’t know a dog’s story. But for celebrities, they break the rules.

“Not even a home visit. Why not give everyone the same treatment whether they’re famous or not.”

While a third said: “I can’t believe he’s a rescue dog and they just let you take him home what can you do next celebrities we should have be checked and have a home visit.”

The charity has spoken out to deny it gives special treatment to celebrities.

They released a statement saying: “We treat each dog as an individual – many of our dogs, unfortunately the majority, cannot be housed with young children due to their past or lack of information about their past.

“[Teddy] is great with children, he has a fabulous temperament and is now in a great home. We know it’s difficult when you have children, and we want all of our dogs to be able to be housed with children.”

They went on to explain that not all dogs can be rehomed with children and that they treat all dogs as individuals rather than imposing a blanket rule.

They added: “Yes we rehomed one of our dogs with @staceysolomon and her family. Yes she went through our adoption process, yes she filled out an application form, yes her home was checked and no, she hasn’t adopted a dog in 24 hours.”

The foster home ended up describing the situation as ‘sad’ that the minority of people cannot be happy that a rescue dog has found a good home with Stacey.
