In her ‘day job’ Susan has worked as an organizational trainer and personal coach. In this capacity she became well versed in learning theory and principles. In addition she creates effective learning environments and solutions to fully engage her clients. Susan is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) with demonstrated expertise in designing and delivering learning experiences with impact.
Susan, has always been passionate about two things – the community in which she lives and the animals in her life. Susan has been an active community volunteer, sitting on numerous boards, and volunteering for pretty much everything she has been asked to do. She has always had a passion for all animals, and has shared her home with many two legged winged and four legged friends.
For over 9 years Susan has volunteered at two area shelters. In this capacity Susan has been able to merge her two passions. She became increasingly interested in and involved with working with the dogs in the shelter environment. She began as a dog walker and shortly after adopted her dog Tucker. Tucker has been a ‘special project dog’ and has contributed greatly to Susan’s desire to expand her knowledge and expertise related to canine learning and training. Over the years Susan has participated in pretty much anything and everything ‘dog related’, including assisting with adoptions, working with individual dogs and Boot Camp, which involved working one on one with a ‘challenging’ dog to teach basic manners and assist in making them more adoptable. Most recently Susan has taken on the role as Dog Training and Behavior Specialist at the Bow Valley S.P.C.A.
To support this hands on experience, Susan has participated in a wide range of training and development to enhance and expand her knowledge and understanding of dogs, dog behavior and dog training. Susan recently received the designation DCBCE (dogma certified behavior consultant & educator) which is an intensive certification program involving the theory and science related to dog behavior, and learning principles combined with practical application, working with individual and groups of dogs as well as class instruction and behavioral issues.
Susan is also a professional member of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers (CAPPDT).
